Welcome to Malabar Crows Nest

The Malabar Crows Nest Restaurant opened its doors in 1992.
Featuring mesmerising floor to ceiling murals of India, solid timber chairs and a cuisine filled with healthy fresh traditional choices, Malabar pays homage to its South Indian heritage. The sharing style menu features a vast selection of South Indian specialities such as vadas and dosai.

Sprawled over two levels, the 150-seater Malabar, is one of the largest restaurants on the North Shore. It offers a range of dining options from private functions rooms, large group tables, through to intimate tables for two, takeaway and catering.
Located within an easy walk of trains, buses and parking stations, it’s perfectly placed for a quick lunch, a feast dinner, large celebratory events and family get-togethers.

Welcome to Malabar – for a trip down India’s most famous Spice Trail!
The Spice Trail of Kerala

Our Malabar, the restaurants, has been named after the coastal region of Kerala; the powerhouse of Indian spices. Often dubbed the ‘Pepper coast’, Malabar originally founded its wealth and power on growing and exporting spices indigenous to Kerala, flourishing under international Ocean trade. Spices were considered a symbol of wealth and affluence and pepper doubled as a more stable form of currency than money during its phase of initial international fame. Trailing pepper, followed the discovery of cardamom, ginger, curry leaves and vanilla among many other spices. This is how the famous Spice Trail was created thousands of years ago bringing us the exotic spices of the sub-continent to every nation’s cuisine.
